Debra Monroe is the author of six books: two collections of stories, The Source of Trouble and A Wild, Cold State; two novels, Newfangled and Shambles; and two memoirs, On the Outskirts of Normal and My Unsentimental Education; and the forthcoming book of essays, It Takes a Worried Woman. Her books have won many awards, including the Flannery O’Connor Award. Her essays have appeared in many venues including the New York Times, The American Scholar, Slate, Guernica, Longreads and more. She is the editor of the anthology Contemporary Creative Nonfiction. She lives in Austin, Texas.
